Alhaj Syeda Abul Hossain was born on October 1st, 1950 in Dashar village, Madaripur. His father was Late Syed Atahar Ali an eminent businessman of his time renowned for his benevolence towards the community. His mother was Late Syeda Sufia Ali, a pious and religious woman from a devout Muslim family.
In his early Childhood Syed Abul Hossain was highly self-motivated and dedicated towards his studies.
Syeda Atahar Ali- “ I worried about Abul since he lacked interest in any social activities and focused only on his studies.”
Syed Abul Hossain- “Many days I would go off and study under the trees so that no one could disturb me and I would return at dawn only to walk to school in the morning”
“Having to walk 9 miles to school everyday, even as a child I keenly realized the need for the development of educational institutes for any real progress of my constituency.”
Starting from the 1980’s till to date Syed Abul Hossain continues to transform his constituency through the revolutionary development of numerous Schools, Colleges and Universities. As a patron of education Alhaj Syed Abul Hossain has established many educational institutions including Kalkini Syed Abul Hossain University College, Syed Abul Hossain College, D.K. Ideal Syed Atahar Ali Academy and College, Khaserhat High School & College, Mostafapur High School & College, Sheikh Hasina Academy & Women’s College and Syed Abul Hossain Academy. He has played an important role in the development of Sahebrampur Poet Nazrul Islam College, Shashikar Shahid Smriti College and Bazidpur Degree College of Kishoreganj. He also established some hundred primary schools and helped development of a good number of high schools in Madaripur district.
Syed Abul Hossain completed his Bachelors in Business Management from The University of Dhaka in 1972 and Masters in 1974.
Syed Abul Hossain married Khwaja Nargis Hossain in September 1979. Khwaja Nargis Hossain is the daughter of the widely respected Sufi family of Enayetpur, Shirajganj. Khwaja Nargis Hossain completed her Bachelors and Masters in Islamic History from The University of Dhaka. She is a successful entrepreneur acting as the Director of Mutual Trust Bank Ltd. and SAHCO International Ltd.
Syed Abul Hossain has two daughters- Syeda Rubaiyat Hossain and Syeda Iffat Hossain. Syeda Rubiayat Hossain completed her Bachelors in Women’s Studies from Smith College, Northampton, Massachusetts and her Masters in South Asian Studies from University of Pennsylvania. She also completed filmmaking degrees from Harvard University and South Asian Studies at SOAS in London. Syeda Iffat Hossain completed her Bachelors in Psychology and Neuroscience from Emory University and Masters in Social Psychology from The New School for Social Research in New York. She also completed degrees in Global Market and World finance from Harvard Business School. They are both following independent business and creative pursuits.
